Unique Kitchen Island Design Remodel in Hope Valley

Keeping the existing walls wood paneling was a must!

Typically, we are contacted by homeowners to update their space, at the includes removing the paneling from the 1950’s on the walls. But, for this home, it made more sense to keep the paneling throughout and find a way to incorporate the design into the new kitchen space. We collaborated with the homeowner’s on the basic needs for the space, generally the overall layout was functional, but with the wall dividing the space from the dining area, it made it harder to entertain. We opted to expand the original opening into the kitchen space, but this made for a more delicate demo to keep the paneling intact. With the larger opening, our design team played around with some fun shapes for an island. Ultimately, it was the additional seating options that created the final look for this unique kitchen island design.

New Design Layout Ideas Ahead

As you can see from the original floor plan, the layout was both aesthetically pleasing and completely functional. We simply added more storage with additional seating along the now much more grand opening into the kitchen space. Another feature that we wanted to be sure to incorporate was the beautiful outdoors. The backyard was strikingly lush and full of wildlife. We used a larger window with full lite clear glass to really be able to appreciate the view.

Another simple update from the 1950’s style was to install recessed can lighting, this feature added the level of bright and open feeling we were hoping to create. We also added under-cabinet lighting for focused areas and perfect for a nightlight.
