Buying a new home can be exciting, stressful and full of possibilities. This particular home, tucked away in the woods of Chapel Hill, was in a perfect location for the new homeowners. But the layout didn't meet their needs. The entry floor level was closed off from the main floor, and the second floor was full of walls that made the space dark and choppy. We were able to open the staircase up with floating treads and glass railings, allowing for natural light to cascade over all the surfaces. We refinished the natural hardwood floors throughout, and lightened them up to further brighten the space, reflecting the sun.
For the main living floor, the kitchen layout needed to be opened up to the living area, and there needed to be more counter space. We achieved this by knocking down all of the walls. The engineered beams created an open space. This allowed the homeowners and their guests enjoy the fireplace from any place, allowed the kitchen to become the heart of the home, and all the new windows allowed us to achieve a tree house feeling. The new homeowners are thrilled and can't wait to move in.
