Kitchen Remodel Collaboration
Mid-Century Modern Kitchen Remodel Collaboration
Working together with Matthew Konar Architect and his team, we were able to transform a dark and outdated kitchen into a mid-century modern bright and open living space. The kitchen was located in the “basement” so to speak. Therefore the main level was the living room and bedrooms. The lower level consisted of a multi-use space in the kitchen and den with a bedroom.
Konar’s team was able to define the space more clearly between the den and kitchen area, as well as, tie into the upstairs existing living room. They overcame this obstacle by cutting a large hole into the main level floor, creating a balcony. This allowed for an enormous amount of light to flood into the lower level, really brightening up the kitchen. Which is a must have for any mid-century modern space. They also added an incredible amount of light with skylights and new window and door solutions on roof and the lower level. This created a more open feeling for entertaining to extend to the outdoor living areas.
Taking a few pieces from the 1950’s to help create the final touches in this new bright and open kitchen space were all that was needed. The homeowner’s now have a large space for the kitchen, a new dining area, a larger family room and still adequate size bedrooms on the lower level. The spaces joined together so seamlessly.
