Kitchen Remodeling Ideas – Load-bearing Wall Removals

A beautiful home in Hope Valley Durham recently underwent major changes. We tore down a load-bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen. Unfortunately, that wall also was the only source of storage for the kitchen. Needless to say, a pantry was required in the new design. The new design provided a different layout with ample storage ideas. We were able to use matching cabinets from the main kitchen, installing roll-out tray inserts to help supplement with the storage needs.

The Process

In the existing layout, the kitchen felt small and only allowed for one cook. Our designer was able to recreate the layout using a large island; allowing for multiple entries into the space. Keeping the major appliances and plumbing in the same location saved on cost and was much more economically friendly to the budget. This allowed for the extra splurge in cabinetry along with the wall in four tall pantry cabinets and a custom built desk made from the same materials. The island offers a lot of extra seating for multiple chefs to roll up their sleeves and jump in with the prep & cooking.

The homeowner’s did their master bathroom remodel at the same time. This helped to keep the dust to a minimum. If you’re going to do a remodel, might as well get it in all once. See all the Bathroom Photos here.
